Common Questions

Can you have more than one ad on web site?
Yes.  To create more than one advertisement, you will first need to be logged into your account.  From the navigation area on the left, click on the "Add A New Listing" link under Ad Management.

How can I track traffic from your network?
You can view your logs for traffic, however, the referrer identified may not be CAnet, but the partner site in which the ad was clicked from.

To allow for tracking software, you can use a tracking URL in the URL To Link To (Destination URL).

Tracking software will allow you to not only verify the number of visitors we are sending you, but can also allow you to track where those visitors are going within your site.  One software package we recommend (available free) is called AXS.  This CGI script can let you track clicks from our or any other network, track footprints within your site, and even tell you how long a user was on a specific page.

For more information on the AXS Site Tracking System, visit the AXS Web Site

Closing an ad is the same thing ad deleting with the exception that it is not removed from the system.  When you log into your account, closed ads are hidden.  You can view these by clicking on the Show / Hide Closed button.

How do I stop or pause my ads?
If you need to pause your campaign, you can do so clicking on the Pause link on your Campaign Summary page.

How is my advertisements position determined?
Ad position is determined by a bid-for-placement system. All the advertisers who choose a particular content category for their ad place a bid on that content category. The highest bidder will have their ad appear at the top of the list for that content category. The lowest bidder will have their ad appear at the bottom of the list. To help you determine an appropriate bid, you can view the current top twenty-five bids on any content category from the Account Summary area of your account.

The top six advertisers within a given category are Premier Advertisers.  These ads are seen the most and are given preferential placement within the network.

How soon are my ads placed on the network?
Advertisements are placed on the network immediately.

How will I be charged for my advertising?
You will be required to post a payment to your account before your campaigns will be shown on the network.  This payment is referred to as a deposit into your CANet account.

Your advertisements will run until the deposit amount is exhausted from clicks to your site.  When you have exhausted your deposit, you may make another deposit to resume your advertising efforts.

Deposits can be made at any time.

Deposits are posted to your account immediately.

Turn of any pop-up stoppers to View Bids or use the Keyword Suggestions.

I do not yet have a website. Want to run ad without it. Your system will not accept this.
To utilize this system, you must have a web site to advertise.

I have 2 identical ads -- one under XXXX , the other under YYYY.  The XXXX ad get's many clicks, the YYYY ad gets absolutely none.  Is there something wrong with the system?  Seems odd that the YYYY ad has gotten a ZERO response...
Check your bid amount for the lower peforming ad as well as the keywords selected.  In many cases, adding additional keywords and/or raising your cost per click amount will improve your ads performance.

When I generate code I see the message that my account is under review. It has been over two weeks since i signed up
If your account has been under review for more than four business days, please contact member support.  This can be done by using the Contact link located on the top of the web site.

You state that ads are geo targeted. I've done a test page but they're all in the USA. How do I target UK only?
To target your advertisement to a single country, you would edit or create your ad by selecting the country you wish to target.  This effects who will see the advertisement.

Our system will "look" at the address of the visitor to determine the country of origin.  Once the country has been determined, advertisements that have that country selected will be shown.

If you are a publisher, this occurs based on the person viewing the page.  While the system is very accurate, there are some instances where we will not be able to determine the country of origin.  In these rare instances, no ads will be shown.

If you are a publisher viewing a page on your site from another country and are seeing ads that look like they are in the wrong country, contact our support team at admin@context-ads.net

Advertisement Guidelines

Summary of Advertiser Guidelines
The most effective advertising communicates a clear message to a targeted audience.   You need to create ads that will inform your potential customers about the products and services you offer. The Advertiser Guidelines will help you create effective ads to generate sales and meet your goals.

Underlying all the Advertising Guidelines are two simple principles that have worked for hundreds of advertisers already in the program:

Which countries do you service?

The CANet Network delivers advertising to users in the US, Canada, UK, India and Australia.

As an advertiser, you can select which countries of origin are allowed to see your advertisement.

For Publishers, your country has to be written in English.  We will deliver ads based on the country of origin of the person viewing your site.

*   Clearly and accurately describe your   site.
*   Emphasize the unique benefits of your   product or service.

Our ultimate goal is your success, and we believe that providing a great user experience is the best way to ensure it. To run your ads on our growing ad network of related sites, you must adhere to these guidelines.

In cases where only minor changes are required for an ad to comply with our Advertising Guidelines, an CANet Editor may edit your ad for you. Examples of the type of edits we may make for you include the following: removing an exclamation point, removing or adding an extra space, and fixing a spelling error.  You must follow the Advertising Guidelines to help ensure that your ads will continue running.

Display URL and Destination URL
The Display URL is shown on some advertising creatives.  This IS NOT the URL that someone will go to when they click on your advertisement.

The Destination URL is the URL the person will go to when they click on your advertisement.  For an effective campaign, sometimes it is better to link directly to the product or service featured than to let your visitor hunt for it within your site.  You can also use this area for a Tracking URL.

Use Correct Spelling
Check your advertisement to make sure all words are spelled correctly.

Use Standard Capitalization
*   Ad text must be written with normal sentence capitalization.
*   No excessive capitalization such as "FREE"   or "VISIT TODAY."
*   Capitalization of the first letter of each word within your Headline is permitted.
*   Capitalization of the first letter of each word within your Ad Body is NOT permitted.

Use Standard Punctuation
*    No repeated and unnecessary punctuation or symbols.
*    Your ad text may only contain one exclamation point.

Why does my ad state the it "Requires Revision"? What must I change
All advertisements that are paused for "Requires Revision" are sent an email message with reason(s).

Pease refer to the email message you received from us regarding this advertisement.

If you did not receive this message, please check your email address in the Profile area.

Can I run a javascript ad tag with you guys?
When creating and ad on our network, you are only able to provide text.  i.e.:  Ad headline, body, display URL, and the destination URL.

Does this cost me anything to use
CANet is a Cost-per-Click advertising system in that you would pay for each lead sent to your web site. The minimum amount required to fund your account for the first time is $5.00. Each subsequent deposit into your account must be at least $5.00. There is no monthly minimum to use CANet.

How can I change my ad and my URL destination.
To change your URL, you will need to log into your account and edit your advertisement.  This will take you through the process of editing your advertisement information.

How do I set up an ad?
The CANet account set up is divided to five sections:

1.   Naming the Campaign:  This is an   identifier that is used only through administration.  This name is show   in your campaign list when you first log in.  As you create more   campaigns, you can name them differently to easily identify them.

2.   Ad Creation:  The Ad Creation area   contains all the information regarding your advertisement.  The fields   are as follows:

Headline - This is the first part of your ad.

Description - The body of your advertisement.

URL to display - The URL to display is the domain name of your site, NOT the   page you are advertising.

URL to link to - This is the URL that the visitor will see when they click on   your ad.  This is provided to allow you to use click-tracking utilities.

Channel Selection - This controls what advertising channels your ad will be   delivered.  You may select as many relevant categories as you see fit.

Target Countries - This area determines what countries your ad will be seen.

Keyword Selection and Search Phrases - Enter as many keywords and phrases that   relate to your advertisement.  On select partner sites, ads are served   based on search results and specific page content.  This segment is   optional and not required.

3.   Proof your Advertising:  Be sure   everything is spelled correctly.  If you submit an ad that contains   errors or does not follow our Advertiser Guidelines, your ad will be paused   for review.

4.   Set Your Budgets:  This area has two   fields, a Daily Budget, and a Cost-per-Click.

Cost per Click -  This is the cost per click you are going to spend.

Daily Budget - This is the maximum amount that will be applied per day to this   campaign.

5.   Activate Campaign:  You can activate   your campaign immediately, or start it later.

Publisher

Do you allow ads to be served on search results?
YES!  Ads can be placed within search results of your site.  If you have the technical ability, you can pass the search information to our code to deliver the most relevant advertisers.

How do I maximize my revenue?
1.   Get started!  If you have not used CANet, you have
left yourself out of a revenue stream for your site.  If you so much as have a small space on your site that is left unsold, place CANet on it. Something is better than nothing!

2.   Place our ad code within your content!  As you add the
ad code into your site, we'll index your web site where the code is placed to determine which ads are to be seen.  Ads seen on pages with closely related content receive higher click-throughs.

3.   Provide a keyword whenever possible.  While channel
ads are easy to set up, if you assign a keyword, click-through are higher (as well as conversions for our advertisers).

4.   Place coding on pages with content.  When ads are seen
on pages that have useful information, ads will have a higher probability of being read and clicked.

5.   Don't cheat.  Do not click on the CANet Ads on your
own site to increase your revenue.  If you cheat, you will be removed from our program and all payments will be forfeited.

How do I set up CANet ads as my Google Alternate Ads?
If you use the Google AdSense program, then you will definitely want to read this Frequently Asked Question.
As a member of the Google AdSense program, you know that from time to time, Google will display public service ads (PSAs) when Google is unable to provide AdWords ads.  Since you would not get paid for these PSAs, you can assign CANet to fill in the otherwise lost space.

What is an Alternate Ad?
Google has described the Alternate Ads in the AdSense FAQ as:
Alternate Ads allow you to monetize your ad space in the event that Google is unable to serve targeted ads to your page. By specifying an image or ad server of your choice, you can make sure that your advertising space is always being used effectively, either by targeted AdWords ads, or by your own choice of content. Alternate Ads count as page impressions like any other ad. Google does not keep track of clicks on alternate ads and you will not receive revenue for them.

Alternate Ads, if specified, will be shown when there are no targeted ads available for your page. The ad space will not be branded as 'Ads by Google.

To use CANet as the Alternate Ad provider, just follow these steps:

1.   Determine which layout you are using.  As of this FAQ, CANet supports the Banner, Leaderboard, Skyscraper, and   Rectangle.  For this example, we will use the Skyscraper as our example.
2.   Create an HTML page on your web site with ONLY   the corresponding ad code from CANet, in this case, the Skyscraper.    It should look like   this.  We named this file skyscraper.html.
3.   Update your Google AdSense Code.  In the   Google AdSense Code, you will add the following line:

google_alternate_ad_url = "http://yourdomain.com/thepagewecreated.html";

Your ad code should look something like this:

            google_ad_client = "your_google_client_id";
            google_alternate_ad_url = "http://yourdomain.com/thepagewecreated.html";
            google_ad_width = 120;
            google_ad_height = 600;
            google_ad_format = "120x600_as";

4.   You are done!  When no ads are available   from the Google Network, CANet ads will be displayed.

How do you pay publishers?
Payment are made by Check or PayPal.

How much will I earn with the CANet Publisher Program?
The ads you display on your web site are cost-per-click (CPC) ads. This means that advertisers pay only when users click on ads. You'll receive a portion of the amount paid for clicks on ads on your website. This amount starts at 35% of the click value and increases based on your web sites performance. We'll send you a check in US dollars for your account balance within 30 days after the end of each calendar month that CANet ads are running on your site if your earned balance is US $25 or more.

You can view your earnings at any time by logging in to your CANet Publisher account at http://context-ads.net and clicking the Traffic Report link. You'll be able to see the total number of impressions, clicks, , average earnings per ad, and your total earnings so you can get an idea of how well the program is performing for you and how much you can expect to earn over time in the program.

How often will I be paid?
Payments are posted by the 25th of each month for the previous months activity.  If the amount to be paid is less than $25.00, the balance is carried to the following month and will continue to do so until the $25 minimum is reached.

I am not able to login to my account.
Few days back, we performed a major software upgrade.  As part of this upgrade, the login process has changed.

To log into the system, you will need to use a four-digit Account Number.  An email was sent to all members with this information.  If you did not receive this message, you can use the Lost Password / ID locator.

I have a lot of traffic on my site on a daily basis, and I know people are clicking through ads, yet my revenue has stayed the same for quite some time now. What is going on?!
After reviewing your statistics it looks like all clicks are being tracked. Please keep in mind that repeat clicks are filtered out as invalid clicks.

If you have any further questions regarding your account, please contact us by email using the Contact page on our web site.

I live in a country not serviced by CANet. How can I see what US audiences see. I want to make sure that my banner is attractive, appropriate and is working.
If you are viewing ads from outside our service area, you will see ads from CANet.  These ads follow the same formatting rules as paid advertiser ads.

What is the CANet Publisher Program?
The CANet Publisher Program is a fast an easy way for web site owners of related sites to display relevant, text-based advertisements on their pages and earn money.  Because ads are related to your site content, you will be able to earn a revenue from your content pages.

1.  Deliver at least 500 page views per month.
2.  You must have a active web site.
3.  Blogs will be given preference.

If you are not sure if your web site will qualify, click on our Live Support button.

What makes CANet different from the other ad networks?
Since 2005, CANet has been serving the advertisement industry with our text-based online advertising solution.  Because ads are related to your content, interest is far greater.

Which countries do you service?
The CANet Network delivers advertising to users in the US, Canada, UK, India, Australia etc.

As an advertiser, you can select which countries of origin are allowed to see your advertisement.

For Publishers, your country has to be written in English.  We will deliver ads based on the country of origin of the person viewing your site.

Why do I only see ads for CANet?
The most common reason you are seeing advertisements for CANet instead of our advertisers is due to a country restriction.  Publishers that access their sites from a country we do not service will see only house served ads (non-commissionable).  This does not mean you are only showing these ads.  Every time a visitor views a page on your site that contains the CANet Ad Code, we check their country of origin.  If the country is one we service, advertiser ads will be shown in place of the CANet house ads.

You say to update codes, but I connot find where to get them.  Where can I find updated codes.
Ad codes are located in the Publisher Control Panel.

Once you are logged into your account, codes are located under Integration Tools.
